cramer chipper HS450

Does anyone have any experience of a cramer HS450 chipper. I brought one a couple of years ago but never used it much. The problem I have with it it does not self feed like the the other gravity feed chippers I have used. You have to push every bit right into it. The blades were new when I got it and seem sharp but just wont pull material in.

 

Has anyone used one of these chipper and are they all like it?

My old boss had 1 it would self feed but slow. Is it PTO driven or engine, the other important thing is the blade sharpening they have a two angle edge.

Another local tree guy to me had the updated hydraulic version and that little bugger was really nice to feed . Although slow it had the advantage of being fitted to a 4 wheel trolley so it could be used for back garden chipping . Max 4" but 3 " was more realistic . Im sure SCH Supplies did an after market hydraulic kit ?

I know nothing about these chippers but I do know that the anvil/bedknife on all chippers needs to have a good edge as well as the blades being sharp for machines to chip efficiently. I would imagine that this is especially important on a machine that feeds itself through the chipping action.

The hydraulic ones look good think i will send the blades away to be sharpened.
