Hi, all just been given an old stihl 044 and 024 wood boss by a good log customer of mine.

Trouble is they both run like there under-powered have done a carb diaphragm kit on both and re-tuned to factory settings but they don't want to rev out to top note!!! and bog out in wood when cutting.

any chance it could be the filters in the tank, would it be safe enough to take the filters off and test without or is it more than likely to drag muck into the carb?

thanks in advance

Matt.:confused1::blushing:

Depends on how clean the fuel tanks are, if they are spotless can't see a problem.

Have you cleaned the carbs right out? Taken the a parts and removed the high low screws and the gauze filters and blown all the channels out with cleaner!

If the carbs are cleaned out what's the compression like. Will give a very good indicator if its low compression.

Also clean the air filters up.

Just blow back into the tank through the pipe. And it will blow anything off the filters.

Cheers GTR, will try what you suggested. Carbs have been stripped an cleaned by my own loving hands?

haven't got a compression tester, but they both have a strong feel on slow pull over on the cord. It just seems to feel like a fuel problem?

will rinse tanks out, blow pipe back from carb to tank and give it a whirl.

Failing that the tank breathers could also be a problem.

Could also be the wrong way and too much fuel getting in.

Check the plug colour aswell.

Indicators for fault finding.

Compression.

Not that jammy yet,

but cheers I was well chuffed when he fetched them out, popped back on the way home after the last delivery of logs with a bottle of red and white for his wife and a pack of Guinness for him.:thumbup1:

I recently had an MS200T in and spent some time on it, it was running then it wasn't, would really cut like a demon and then a bag of poop.

I have cleaned everything but when I pulled the carb gauze filter out....right out and held it against a lamp, there was a fine cover of glaze filling all the holes.

It cleaned up pretty easy with a blast of solvent and dry paper towel and it fixed the issue.

The carb had already been in my pro US cleaner under heat and US and am guessing the crud lifted a little and fell back in to place - the carb was cleaned with the gauze filter upwards and in place:blushing:

Try it - if the saws have been left standing, they may have suffered in the same way - this MS200T had been standing a long while!
