So iv got my cs38 and 39 next week, i was just wondering can i climb on a Valdltain tresse or has it got to be a blackes hitch, i ask because iv been getting loads of practice in but on a VT, a friend says so long as i can demonstrate the 3 knot system. i should be able to use the VT, is this true?

Thank you :)

It is at the assessors discretion as to whether or not he will allow you to use a vt as part of your system , secondly you will need to ensure that the hitch cord is properly marked and carries a CE , the assessor may request that for the rescue climbs that you revert to a standard system .

oh and have a read up on the reasons why the VT is suitabe for the task in which you are about to carry out and also where the strengths and weaknesses in using the VT as part of your system are and where the main wear points are within that not etc

if a candidate who is new to climbing can turn up for one of my assessments and can rationally explain why he/she is using a certain system and has the underpinning knowledge to accompany his/her choice of system then i see no reason to stop them from using it as long as it is a recognized and safe system for the task in hand .

Hope this helps
