timber contacts

Hello I have recently started into the world off chainsaw carving back in may and loving every bit off it .I am now starting to get some commissions for my work and I have been using Douglas Fir which have been sourcing from a saw mill so as you can imagine its fairly expensive.

I am based on the Orkney Islands so getting any timber / logs locally is very rare.So I am looking to make some new contacts in Scotland/North England for getting logs I would really like to get my hands on a load of cedar as I have been told its a very suitable wood for outdoor carvings.

Any Help will be much appreciated Thanks guys .

Alan.

I was noticing that last time I was going down the A9 rite enough ,I would be delighted if I could get a lorry load of good logs it would keep me going for a while.

I have been going away with my pickup collecting as much I dare put in the back its usually a long run home .

As far as Caithness is concerned much of the locally grown timber is contract-bound for biomass. My mate in Wick bought a lorryload of softwood that had to come from down the road at Helmsdale.
