Just starting by myself has any one got any opinions on the best way to advertise?

Word of mouth works a treat for me plus having some friends who are landscapers, you could try magnetic signs for your 4x4 etc as its cheaper than getting it sign written. Once your running for a while think about getting a veh wrap or written

Village/parish mags, cheap and a good start, flyers also are cheap and if you dont have a days work go deliver these. Webs a minefield of pitfalls and wastes of money, its worth speaking to a web based co. for advice. Word of mouth is very good but it takes a long while to build up.

+1 forget newspapers very dear for little return. plus boards on site were you are working with a home no and mobile people look at code and know you are local.

Find a local printing / embroidery shop, scan their catalogue for "breathable" tshirts for summer use and rugby jerseys for winter, find some you like, keep 1 smart (ish) for general wear and wear the "working" shirts while out & about & on jobs! Amazing how many people will ask "do you do trees?" Free, walking, talking billboard! Just the job!!

Ive tried flyers, yellow pages, a website and various magazines/newspapers.

 

Flyers and word of mouth have got me about 85% of my work. seems that mainstream ways of advertising are a waste of time, I plan to withdraw from the website and newspapers at the end of the year

Im going to hand flyers out tomora. Most my work is landscaping but do, do the odd tree but wanting to start doing trees for my main income.
