How to drive firewood processor without tractor or 3 phase power

I'm looking at a Fuelwood Splitta processor (Fuelwood page) that will be permanently housed in an open shed. I don't want to use a tractor to drive the PTO 'power pack' because of access and noise issues and I don't have 3 phase power available to me to drive the electric power pack. A friend is using a single phase to 3 phase converter for his carpentry workshop and a larger version might work for me. Has anyone else in the trade come up against this one before? Tks

I doubt you will have enough 1ph to drive a big motor like that. I would look at a silent genny or donkey engine with pto drive. or fit a honda 13hp and suffer the noise.

Have you looked at the Farmi WP30 or 36 it has its own 13hp Honda engine to drive the processor, may be possible to extend the oil pipes to mount the engine remotely to reduce the noise for the operator>

Most of the processors only need about 13hp to run them so most of these ideas will probably work. If you can get the shaft spinning at around 540 rpm when the load goes on it will not have much effect on a car engine. Probably better to buy a honda engine with pump and put it in a generator enclosure.

better bet is a RWD vehicle. cut the hinder-end off and drive off the propshaft.

No problems with overworking the differential assuming the other front wheel is fixed.

But perhaps this is unlikely to be an issue.

A baby petrol engined dahatsu/suziki Jimney type thing should be cheap, and quite quiet to listen to, and compact forby.

I recall I reckoned a car "travelling" about 40 odd would be spinning the wheels at about 540rpm, but if one wheel locked that becomes 1080 rpm.

A good idea and cheap too.

This one runs a JD baler!
