Oak Tree Transporting

Today brought back to our place two oak trees that we fell a few months ago, ready for cutting into firewood next winter.

 

Two nice loads on our artic trailer and our big tipper.

yeah its not bad, but look how rotten the trees actually were.

Mans gotta make a living, but thats a poor loss of rare habitat imo.

yeah i agree, i would have liked to have left it standing and just taken the bows out, we have done that a bit latley and its nice leaving a habbitat.

 

but this is what we got told to do, the stumps are going to be dug out and then the field ploughed

Planting space is obviously a premium, especially when oportunity (dead tree) presents itself, but I'm starting to feel that a grant scheme for Farmers to leave dead standing habitat would be extremely beneficial to both them and the biodiversity thats present.

 

Anyone know if there's anything actually already out there for this?

Im pretty sure that there used to be, but a long time ago. When i was a youngster- i can still recall those days just about- i worked on my mates dads farm, who was going on about how they were being paid to leave trees standing.....Would be welll worth finding out, as there are so many farmers who seem desperate for any excuse to get a chainsaw running:scared1:

i am going to try and convince my landlord to leave the big shattered beech just for you dave. the other scraggy beech is coming down tomorrow. what do you think caused it to break there.

Might be worth getting in touch with your local Farming and Wildlife Action Group(FWAG) rep. They are the ones who can advise on that sort of stuff.
