husqvarna 254 xp

I am rebuilding a 254xp and have discovered that the oil pump worm drive gear is stripped and split. I think that the oil pump is faulty as it sticks when you turn it by hand, prob knackering the drive gear! I have converted the saw from .325 to 3/8. The new clutch drum has drive teeth to locate the drive gear for the oil pump whereas the old clutch drum has no drive teeth. The oil pump drive gear has slots for the drive teeth to fit in to, driving the oil pump. Question, are the two clutch drums interchangable? Also, how does the clutch drum with NO drive teeth on it turn the oil pump gear??? I am coming up with so many different part numbers for the various parts I need so any help there would be great!!

Parts required; Oil pump plastic drive gear 503557801 I think?

Oil pump ??

O ring seal 501624301 I think?

Thanks in advance!!

Serial number of saw is 8500471, year 1998

All the 254XPs I have worked on have had a brass pinion/oil pump gear, this is a push on fit on to the crank so no drive between the clutch drum and pinion. The oiler is on al the time

It looks like the later ones had a plastic pinion with a drive from clutch drum to oiler pinion so the oiler is only running when the chain is spinning. I am guessing that you have parts from saws of different ages.

Hi ,

I changed the sprocket on my 1998 254xp at the weekend , my oil pump drive is black plastic with slots for the clutch drum to fit into , so I recon that's the set up you should have on your saw .

Yes, reckon the flat backed drum is for the older machine!

Thanks guys, found some good parts diagrams online and seems I have a saw with a mix match of parts! All sorted now though I could do with a good oil pump. New genuine cost £100. Any alternatives?

ebay or someone breaking a saw for spares - I listed two of the parts list on my first post - did you miss them:confused1:
