Blackthorn injury

Doctor or Walk In centre ASAP! If infection sets in (sounds like it may have) as you have already seen it makes a difference to your everyday work let alone everyday life. Pastes are ok if near the surface but if the area starts swelling as much as you have said then it needs looking at straight away in a medical context.

For future reference if reddening near an area of splinter/insect bite starts to show then if concerned mark it with a pen and see if the reddening spreads. If it does then there may be a good chance of infection.

Hope your thumb is on the road to full recovery very soon.

If you do get a blackthorn injury get it seen to, I had a two inch thorn punch thro my chainsaw pants and into my thigh whilst feeding the chipper, it looked like a blackhead, when I made it to my vehicle it had disappeared into the muscle and I could feel it moving every time I took a step. I ended up in theatre for an op to remove it. The surgeon told me the infection from them can be fatal.

i managed to get a blackthorn needle in my arm. when pulling away some cuttings that had got caught up, when i tugged it really hard it came away, spun round and 'bit me'. i dont mind saying i was in bloody agony!

it managed to hit a nerve in my arm and after nearly passing out 3 times in A&E while they were poking about in a 2" hole they made in my arm trying to find it, they finally got the bugger.

it was long it nearly came out the other side of my arm (i only got skinny arms mind lol) 😂

i give that stuff the respect it deserves when working on it. hateful stuff!
