Stands used for carving on

Instead of stretching down to carve, causing back ache and annoyance im looking to get a table/stand for when im working on carvings.

Iv noticed all sorts from, trolly jacks, scissor jacks etc.

Im thinking of using a large wooden cable reel. Seems like a good idea and is the correct height (for me)

Has anyone had any experiences with varied stands and could advise me?

especially large wooden cable reels.

Cheers:001_smile:

4 pallets stacked with a couple of battens to hold them together. I can then slide some wooden strips down the slats to make simple dogs to hold the work piece.

Also got a couple of pallets stacked for standing on doing taller stuff.

Cheap and cheerful but not as mobile !!

I looked at the motocross stands, like ideal if it wasn't or the price :-(

Pallets sound a good idea too. Think im going to do a little work to the reel to hold something like a carvers screw. Not sure yet but im sure it will do the trick from what you've said

worx jawhorse looks like the job! although iv gone for a free option and have 'moded'

a large wooden reel. I shortened the top and the centre hole modified so that you can use a screw to hold your carving. Only think left is to sink the bolts further into the wood that hold the reel together..else ill be spending all my time breaking or sharpening my chain. hopefully it will work well...(for how much I paid for it) ;-)
