I find if at all possible that those magic gloves you can get for a quid can sometimes fit underneath any gloves you may be using and the extra layer really helps, especially under sticky gloves that really aren't that warm.

sticky gloves, i tried some gill neoprene winter gloves they were £20 and lasted me the best part of the winter, super sticky super warm but super sweaty. i now run wit sticky gloves, they are warmer than i thought and i've not got them stuck in a hitch too much, summer is on its way so i'm looking forward to climbing sans gloves

IMO there's nothing wrong with using a 14 or 16mm rigging line as a climbing line as long as its labeled and lolered as such. It'd be a heavy lump to drag round a tree though.

In support of Toms comment, a rope is at the end of the day just a rope, it only becomes a climbing line when we call it a climbing line. if you really wanted to you could climb on 128mm neutron 8 if you wanted (i wouldn't as its dynemma and 9.21kgs per meter).

I Know a guy that used to climb on samson True Blue which is a true half inch rope i beleve It seemed to cover the two criteria:

1,Large enough for good grip

2, Small enough to not weigh a ton

Might be worth a look at

I use these gloves, they cost £6.99 a pair in the local hardware shop..

Absolutley fantastic - I buy the ladies version, size 7-8 and they fit like a second skin, great for work. Only problem is they do wear out after about 5 or 6 weeks.

Regarding bigger climbing line, I think I will have a look at the True Blue, failing that i'm going to get a bull rope of about 18mm but only in a short length, something like 20m.
