I plan on using it too make everything from benches,to birdboxes,,mushrooms,wendy houses etc,,,

You lucky bar steward Clive! I love sequoia, but it isn't very commonly felled.

 

In answer to the other questions, it's an excellent cladding and exterior furniture material. Semprevirens is the better of the two, being far stronger. Wellingtonia is also extremely rot resistant, but is very brittle, so best only for cladding/fencing.

 

It dries incredibly quickly and with no defect. Having seen a workshop clad in it, I'd choose it for cladding over anything else.

Right, the ailing tree we have is actually a welly, in my ignorance I thought they were the same. got 5 massive ones in our woods, but one is struggling. So my plans of benches etc. For it are maybe not the best? Is the sap wood durable or just the heart?

Will upload some pics of the tree at some point for a professional opinion on its condition.

Ive made loads of stuff from it in the past and there still going strong, giving the right finnish helps, seen some massive stuff made from it at glasto, by a guy,and hes been going for the last ten yrs as I have and his king arthur table and chairs are incredible,,

I`m making a funky wendy house for my grandaughter,,will post when done,,,,
