TP chipper roller blade sharpening

Just purchased a used tp200 PTO which appears to be in pretty good condition but the roller blades could do with a sharpen the manual says I can do this with an angle grinder. I assume the best way is to gently grind the big flat face of each blade down as opposed to grinding the small vertical face inwards as the weld seams will get in the way.

Also the manual just mentions about grinding the bottom roller the top one doesn't seem like it needs grinding much anyway but does anyone do that one too.

So nice to work on that chipper though:thumbup1: I don't want to slate my timber wolf but changing the blades in the TP is a breath of fresh air and what's this- big greasable bearings!?

I would say don't grind, sand.

I use a flap disc, its a lot less savage than a grinder (they go down to 120 grit if you need) and leaves a lot better edge, if the edge is badly worn it is possible to build it back up with weld before you "grind" it back.

Hi Mat

If you have any problems just pop in as I have a water cooled bench grinder that should do a lovely job on those blades

Thank you for that generous offer:thumbup1: I'm hoping the flap discs will do the job because then I won't have to remove the rollers from the machine, if I'm having no luck I may take you up on that- one of the rollers is fairly well worn.

Mathew, had you had a go sharpening your rollers yet? I need to do mine on my Tp200 mobile. Like the other guys have said I get my service parts from a motor factors to save money. I think I will get pattern knives as well soon.

Not surprised OEM parts are expensive as they don't wear out very quickly, I reckon mine would survive an H bomb! Bit heavy though :)

Cheers

Mark
