Price on sawn softwood - Larch

Anyone got an idea on price per cubic foot for waney edge Larch boards?

 

Doing 8 or so 1" x 10" x 8ft planks for a mate but no idea what to charge. 4.5 cu ft total. Was thinking £10 per cube as it's £4 a hoppus. Seem reasonable? It's only £45... Surely I should add some labour to that or something?

 

Also have an order for shelving. 24 x 2" x 6" x 8' though that's more likely to be QSawn. Cheers, Rhob

what is your daily rate, and do you do a half day or minimum charge, ok its only a few boards but your time to set up, saw and clean down have got to be paid...even at mates rates... get him to come and help with the labour and then he'll see whats involved and a "sutible" payment can be arranged.....its all about not ending up out of pocket

It's on my boss' bandsaw using a 3t digger to load+ the felling and forwarding from his woodland. Takes about a hour to set up & mill this lot. Plus delivery. Don't have a day rate but £30-40/hour on the Alaskan seems about right, off topic.

 

Just want a price on the wood as everything else labour-wise will be on top. Will be quality wood but how much?

well if your labour rate is covered in the rest of the job, you should be about right with around £10 to £15 a cube, depending on quality of the timber, no knots = higher value

Hoppus is a sawmill-specific unit of volume that converts a cylinder stick to cuboid. Like cubic feet but it accounts for wasteage. There's a few threads around...

Sorry I meant the price , do you mean you're paying 4 quid per hoppus ? I would pay that for oak .larch is around 35 / 40 quid / m/3 which would give you a much better profit margin

Seems cheap! That'd be £1.44 per hoppus at the top end!

 

1 m3 = 27.736074 Hoppus feet.

 

Didn't just pick the hoppus price out of the air - followed a few other softwood sawing threads so was led to believe £3-5 was a fair price. Do you buy in Larch at that price?

£8 per cubic foot is usual round here for sawn larch. Don't do work for mates - you never make money. Be lucky:thumbup1:
