What pays the bills for you?

Having recently posted up pictures of probably my best work here a couple of what keeps the wolf from the door. Sorry no pretty pictures here just carpentry.

Spent a lot of the last year building all sorts of things for an industrial unit who were being quoted silly money for overly engineered items around the place. First is a sound proofing enclosure for a large planer. About the size of a small bungalow. And some staging currently under construction.

Sorry this is not woodcraft but I wondered do some of you do other things removed from your main skill to pay the bills?

Part time in the fire service gives us our expendable income. Loved it for the first four to five years. The training was brilliant and i used to have a lot of shouts. Now I can't wait to be in a position to leave. Free up more time for the kids as it gets frustrating not being able to take them out without finding cover or trying to book holiday around other guys on the section. Expectations to keep the appliance covered 24 7 are just to high with the amount of personnel we have. The service has changed alot over the time i've been in and Not all for the good. Good shouts are now few and far between and volume has also decreased due to none attendance to fire alarms.

Thanks Mark:001_smile: I will pass on what you say about the fire service as a good friend is looking at becoming a part timer.

Nice job.

Do you do all the trades? I always chicken out when it comes to plastering.

Don't get me wrong, it's fantastic if you have the time to commit to it so and I would always recommend it to people as the experience you gain from it is fantastic. But for me it's now something I've achieved and what I get from it is now limited ( apart from a welcome pay slip at the end of each month).
