Cheers Dave,

Pretty hard to see from that though. I was hoping to see either a thin (F.f) or thick (G.a) tube layer, but can't really tell.

I'd go with Gano, possibly adspersum if the crust is as hard as you suggest.

And Dean, the word down here amongst the users of the Queens spoken tongue is....Pervert not Pevert :sneaky2:

But I'll 'old me 'ands up eiver way guv :001_tongue:

Hosted on Sycamore, made me drawn towards Fomes fomentarius (Hoof/Tinder Fungus)

Fomes on Sycamore? Enlighten me. I've only ever seen it on birch and beech in Europe.

Michael Jordans' Encyclopedia of Fungi of B & E, makes mention of F. fomentarius "on wood of Broad-leaf trees, predominantly in northern regions where it favours Birch but also Beech and Sycamore"................

Haven't personaly seen it on Syc either.

Now there's a challenge :001_smile:

Thank you David :001_smile:

I was thinking Gano, but do they not all have a white underside? or is it discoloured by age?

I think its Ganoderma Sp. probably adspersum, its quite an old bracket by the looks of it so the white will have faded - no newer brackets?
