There is nothing like a good belt with a hammer to get a clutch off.:biggrin:

 

Its got to be technical belt though.

And it's got to be with the biggest (sorry technical) hammer you have... Non of this toffee hammer rubbish.

 

If in doubt give it a clout. If that doesn't work get a bigger hammer. :lol::lol::lol:

:lol::lol::lol: I would love to tell you I'm joking I really would. Hence why only a few are actually good RNLI mechanics. And there the ones with a background.

 

I actually know more than one or two mechanics at the station. Sadly its turned into a VDU operator rather than an actual mechanics job.

this causes a clanking sound on idle that disappears once the chain is spinning.

It doesn't seem to cause issues

 

Then it can stay clanking I'm not rich!

 

ref hammering off clutch......... yup I can see how the crank could be bent now :001_huh: I was assuming people had a lil finesse :(

 

I wont be giving it any grief for teh 1st couple of tanks I will let teh new rings bed in 1st.

 

Maybe worth me taking a video of it starting and running so you chaps can tell me if it sounds as it should or anything untoward ?

A socket and tommy bar are generally all a MS260 needs IMO, the only ones I hammer are the Husqvarna ones without the hex nut moulded in to the central boss.

 

By the way - right handed thread, clockwise to take it off and use the stihl double ended plastic piston stop.

 

To check it just remove the circlip of the end of the crankshaft, remove the clutch drum and then try to move the clutch shoes and see if they sit relatively loose on the central boss! There should be little to no play but will still work when very worn:blushing::thumbup:

Nooooooooo! Rev the balls off it from word go! It'll give it more power! Idling it for a few tanks will drop the power greatly!

Thanks Spud I will investigate further and nice tip ref LH thread :thumbup1:.

 

Just looking at self employment status so as and when I sell anything I'm all legal and above board, I cant be dealing with looking over my shoulder all the time :thumbup1:
