You can also just tape them or use a bit of shrink tube, the shrink tube option is also good for putting an ID tag under for your LOER records.

If you go onto YouTube there are plenty of vids of professional splicing and they show how to put lock stiches in, i just use insulation tape round to tidy,to make it look more professional you could use heat shrink.
