May as well add to this...been lightly :001_rolleyes: modifying a 372XP for my mate Burrell (Martin), Exhaust port and inlet port widened, upper transfers re profiled, lower transfers heavily modified and a muffler mod to wake the dead.

Sounds rather nice now, fast off the throttle and the tweaks to the squish have given a whopping 180psi comp.....:thumbup:V nice.

Lookng forward to testing it - should eat 441s for breakfast:thumbup:

Sorry but IMO you want more power go buy a bigger saw......

I'm not in the porting camp and probably never will be. After porting two saws. One went wrong and the other worked fine and still is. I'm out on porting.

Why, what for, and what's the point?!

Stihl will always be a superior saw in my book, not that it makes much difference s the all cut wood and do a job.

My only favourite saw is the ms200t and always will be. Don't think there is a person alive that has used one that can deny that one.

Spud you do a brilliant job on them but its just my opinion.

I think one important point to note is , porting , done correctly by some one who knows their stuff ( spud - walker saw shop etc ) Makes the saw more efficient . Not just more powerful . Just my take on it .

Cost, weight, application of use, you can still use a ported saw for normal use! If I said I wanted my 560 ported so I could run a 24" bar for felling 4' trees, milling etc, but still drop down to 15" bars for day to day stuff, rather than buying a bigger saw like my 385 is for use on high days and holidays

My 372 is ported so I could pull a 30" bar with it purely so that when I'm walking the log limbing I don't have to bend so much

I think any mods have to be done by a person who understands your needs and what your looking for and cando the job required

I agree eddy that although it cool to use the big beasts and feel the power packing them is not the easiest .....my elbows and back will testify to that

Buy a bigger saw yeh is a good choice but what's the point of havin a 066 heavy saw on ur harness when u can have a ported 372 that is less weigh cuts like a bat out of hell does the job quicker and they just cut like wood is going out of fashion

IMO u ent used a good ported saw if u had u would see the light

Sorry

When we do another boys day out u will have to come along mate and have a play

The guy that I did this saw for already has a 357XP that I prepared for him, for jobs where he would have typically grabbed a MS660, he is now using a saw that weighs a lot less, cuts nearly as fast and has better AV - he has noticed a big difference on the impact on his body.

Apart from that, most guys that run these saws just get more out of them - lighter, faster, more work done, greater satisfaction......I run mine and they are just more enjoyable than their standard counterparts.

I guess you just love modified kit or you don't, I am always looking to get the most from any mechanical kit I have, others leave it well alone!

Never knocked the MS200T, best topper out there but when it comes to others - the 346XP is just a better saw than the MS260 and the 254XP better then the 026 IMO - the Stihl is just a bit of a banger compared to the Husqvarna in this range - Saws from each manufacturer have their own strengths but I love the Swedish saws for many reasons and having worked for a German company for 30 years has kind of jaded my opinion against Stihl and toward the Swedish kit:thumbup:

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and their own views - Rich, you may change yours if we ever have the next Sawfest and you come up here:thumbup:
