When you say driving thru wood I guessing you mean overcutting??? imo that comes with experience more than anything. Removing the dawgs I've never done that but guess that cause I use em but some of the guys may give you better advice on that than I can

Leave em on I use em . If you "lever" too hard you will just stall the chain . You will get to " feel" when its cutting the best, load against chain speed/ engine revs if you see what I mean .

I know it says cut the bar length for 5 mins or something like that but I didn't like the idea of it going straight from unused to revving its balls off, in logging up the firewood I did cut the bar length repeatedly just incase but my understanding of the auto tune is that it retunes itself on a regular basis depending on temperature and air pressure so it's always perfectly tuned for the environment your working in so it shouldn't matter to much how it's tuned itself in the past, either way its come good now it's my favourite saw!

Not sure what overcutting means-just seen people driving the dogs into wood and then pivoting the saw hard into the cut and wondered if this could shorten the lifespan of the saw or some of it's components...thanks for your reply!

I think if you let the saw tick over from new for any length of time without varying the revs you stand a chance of glazing the bore rather than the rings bedding in . just me .....
