Can I ask why use that square thingy? is it to add friction?

It looks likr it adds friction at the block point, instead of having it at the base of the tree?? Nice idea!

Hi Darrin and welcome,

 

I take it to retrieve after lowering, the climber must unclip the figure of eight and pull the line up himself as a groundy couldn't?

 

If there's a chance of the line falling off the shoulders while slack (before the weight comes on from the piece being cut) then locking up, i'd swop it for ISC 30kn figure of eight (stainless steel) | F R Jones and Son which i've used for lowering the chipper down a steep bank (CS100 before you panic!)

 

Not being picky - just my thoughts

If it is that light then surely you don't need any friction device.

 

Or if you do then just use a natural crotch... Rope dependent of course.

Hi everybody thanks for the welcome.First off it's not my idea,but i've used it many times and really like it.

It's 8 mm cord and mine is 30 meters long fits into a small bag.easy to carry on a harness if wished.

No it's so he can see more of the rope, because hey, who doesn't want to see more of the rope
