Seem some shamefull reports in local paper out "locals" protesting at the event in the new forest this weekend.

Heard that tacks had been put on the course and a unrelated cyclist fell as a result a broke his collar bone people where shouted at and bike being kicked along the rhinefeild arnimental drive.

If half of the reports are true its a narrow minded view of these events as many are charity fund raisers and the hundreds of extra visitors should be made welcomed and encouraged to spend at there money at tea rooms ice cream stands etc.

I ride and love it especial the beutifull new forest at has "national park" status should'nt we be aloud to enjoy ???

FYI im not stereo typing new forest residents and do not wish to offend just disscuss the events

Thats quite poor!! But tacks have even been known of in the tour de france and other races where you would expect the bikes to be very welcome.

The wiggle events are rarely fund raisers though. They are sportive style events that attract many different kinds of riders. I have only done wiggle mayhem (24hr team relay race) but they also do road rides etc and attract so many riders that they are probaby victims of their own success. Its not very subtle have 1000's of bikes in one place, and if they are mountian bikes then they are usually quite a load bunch of people.

But its all sport and this country is slowly getting there and appreciating sport more, so its sad when you here things like this.

I did a 50km ride with 1200 others weekend before last and had no problems, but the polic had to close the roads at the start to let all 1200 of us set off at once and I'm sure there were some angry drivers who were delayed on their sunday trip to B&Q.

Yep, mayhem is at Gatcome park this year, hopefully a good move from the awful experience at Eastnor castle (only weather, nothing bad happened) I dont want to go there again!

So, Arb show at Bathurst on the friday, then mayhem starts at 2pm the following day just down the road at Gatcombe and both are only half hour from my house!!
