Hi All,

Looking to Add a few more books to my collection!

I am of course considering Shigo's modern arboriculture? 2008 addition?

Also looking for something that goes into the biology of trees?

Any suggestions/favourites?

And if anyone has a copy of such a book I would be happy to grease your palm for it :D!

Exactly what I was looking for

The edition of Modern arb they have is 1991? And I have seen a 2008 edition?

Which one is preferred??

Why on earth did you introduce me to this website!! I want every book they sell

Although some Arb books are extremely pricey!

lol yes theres a lot of good books at treesource:thumbup1:

a new tree biology from shigo is also worth having

I think the 2008 edition is just a new print run, dont think there is any difference to worry about.

What sort area of the study of trees are you particularly looking at?

Ok so a weigh off between Trees: their natural history and a new tree biology which wins!?

I'm basically trying to expand my knowledge of trees beyond just identifying and naming them. Pruning times, why we prune when we prune. Benefits of the methods we use etc. it's all very well me having my Certs..... But doesn't mean I know a thing about trees!

And as sad as it sounds, as much as I love climbing and the physical aspect of the job, I also have a genuine interest in trees and ecology.

I would love to go back 6-7 years and study at uni etc, rather than just going straight into work.

One book isn't going to explan it all far from it. IMO start with shigo and Mattheck, Lonsdale-(may have to get from the libery) tons of books that are good and lots of threads about books. You will learn something new from each book so it's all worth it. Let us know what you go for :thumbup1:

for :thumbup1:

I certainly would never think I could develop the level of understanding I want from a single book/source. It has taken me 3 years to build up what I would describe as a "basic" horticultural knowledge base.

Ok so one book ordered, Shigo's modern arboriculture.

As for book no.2..... It's a tricky one, because as people have said everything offers something different.
