I have a job taking down a large conny in a garden, its next to a hedge and then there is a railway line, it is not electric and maybe has 20 trains per day going past. The tree is about 15 foot from the line, the take down is straight forward enough but I'm just wondering what the regulations on this are? Can we just crack on or is there loads of red tape etc? Any help will be appreciated. Hodge.

I was operating a 360 excavator on a construction site right next to a main line fence some years ago, within 1/2 hour of starting work the transport plod were there ordering that measures were in place to prevent possible slew/swing over the fence!

Btw this was around 1992 so I imagine todays h&s obsessed culture would make a big deal over your work nearby.

I believe it's 3 meter from trackside. Did a line of connies about 3 week back and Network Rail sent a banksman. After the first day it was decided that he wasn't need as we was over said distance

Did you have to pay for the banksman? Who did you call to sort it?

Not sure? It was a Shell fuel station, I was just the climber. Give your local NR depot a ring, I'm sure they'll sort you out. I think it also depends if there's a fence. I know they put a blue net fence up for us, but that wouldn't of been needed if one was already there
