Has any one used amsteel rope for rigging?im in the market for a new lowering rope and bumped in this stuff on the net.is it any good or would it be better off with double braided rope?

i think its made up of dyneema which does not standup to shock loading very well , saw a vid of a dyneema sling being drop tested not to long ago and it performed very poorly.

Actually it performed exactly as expected.

Dyneema does not shock load, this isnt news, nylon and or poly does this much better.

Riggin rope works great for rigging, 2N1 nylon/poly, super strong, great rigging rope. Amsteel is for lifting and winching, not loading and dropping, the Amsteel would transmit all of that shock force into the tree, I would assume(aplolgies if I am wrong), so that would make for a prety ruff rigging experience.

A rigging rope is not where you want to save a buck(not accusing OP, just saying) , or using something lighter than what you think you might need, rigging ropes are generally heavy, unruly buggers, and that is how they should be IMHO. We use 5/8" and 3/4" exclusively, no 1/2" or 9/16", just for the simple reason they, 5/8, and 3/4 are overrated for 95% of the work we use them for.

We will use the 5/8 for almost everything, getting out the 3/4 for the bigger boys.

Not for everyone I am sure of this, but it works for us.
