I stretch mine as I'm doing them to remove as much as possible, one I did for RobArb I didn't stretch and the wrench kept twisting at the top.. Lesson learnt

Some crap pics of said tether. Pretty standard split leg tether. Used rubber spacers at the wrench end to pack out the attachment point. 6mm OV quardupled, lock stitch to death, then tape and heatshrink x4. 2 or 3 layers of heat shrink on the split legs too.

This is how I make mine.

take 105cm of 8mm db class1.

1st eye:

tie stopper knot at one end.

remove core at 20cm from end and balance cover and core.

insert wire fid at 23cm from core exit point, bring out at opposite side of core exit point and pull the cover through. This forms the karabiner eye; don't make it too tight, a looser eye is easier to take on and off the karabiner.

balance and stitch along the buried section.

untie stopper knot and balance rope.

2nd eye:

follow the instructions same instruction but remove core at 90 degrees from the previous point to ensure a twist can be put into the finished tether without affecting the eyes.

the finish:

place blue bandit rubber (or similar) at the bight.

stitch the two sides together at the blue bandit. Not a running stitch, just an in-out-in-out stitch. stitch at a further two points along the tether (remember that the legs have to open around the HC pulley!)

I use shrink tube on the lower section for the shop sold tethers but not on my own. apply a thick and adhesive shrink tube along the main section.

The tether should have a curve and some flexibility.

 

should take 30 minutes at first, quicker when you've done a few !
