Is that per week - or was that it?

 

Sorry, that was per week and during school holidays he worked 5 days a week. It was a two year arrangement but the college couldn't keep the second year full so towards the end of the first year they 'squeezed the second year in'!

It was ridiculous and meant that the apprentice then thought he'd completed the scheme.

 

Thing is though, if the lad is a numpty.........

Of course , if he's good and committed then it's good for all.

 

One good thing about it is that if he's no good it's very easy to get rid of him, unlike a regular employee on the books.

So how much would it cost in pound notes to have an apprentice for the two years? Not balancing off his work or providing equipment or your teaching time.

 

How often do the colleges come round to see you in the workplace? And what is the duration of a visit?

 

Only approximte answers needed.looking in to it in behalf of my nephew.

I give my new lads a 2 weeks if there willing and like the work and I keep them after the 3rd month they get trained 30/31 and then I take it out there wages weekly..

The cost depends on the Apprentice. If he's good he'll cost you a bit at first with slow production and blunt saws. Soon enough though he'll be paying his way and then should be earning you a little bit back.

If he's useless he'll cost cost cost.

 

It's a good scheme but depends entirely upon the candidate but also how you treat and motivate them. Don't forget, they are very young and sensitive so you must try to get the best out of them, for everyone's sake. Remember you are their mentor, not their drill sergeant.

It is a great scheme but needs a total buy in from all parties, the apprentice MUST keep up with the evidence gathering and the employer MUST give them the exposure to work covered by the syllabus and allow them to practice the skills they learn at college or its a waste of time and money
