General Bark Trimming Question

Can anyone help…..I am concerned about a eucalyptus tree I have in my back yard…..it’s basically on the boundary line, it’s a very large tree probably about 24+” trunk diameter in width and at least 35 ft in height. I have cut a triangular slither from the bark on one side (my side) of the trunk about 1” at the base and roughly 10” in height and width to permit a fence to run along side of the tree. I am now a little concerned this may damage/be detrimental to the tree, as a complete amateur in this field could anyone give me an indication to whether this will heal up OK or not?

Thanks in advance - JP
