IMO this isnt an easy one to ident due to image quality but given the thickness of them, the spread and colour (Rugosum is browner) I would say its either Trametes versicolour for a first guess or stereum hirsutum because it appears to have an orange tone about it. was the pore surface smooth or obviously pored?

Not a clue Tony: the limb was 10' off the ground, the light was poor and it was one of those 'while you're here' moments. Overall impression was of a fungus that forms a thin coating rather than protruding distinct FBs; not much help there I'm sure.

I'm sure the limb will come off: the guy's pretty paranoid, the limb loss won't spoil the tree overall but if it did come down on its own it may well land on his rarely used G Reg Merc!

Thanks,

Jon

Apologies to the suggestion of Chicken of the Woods I so poo-poo'd; these things aren't lying as flat as I thought.

Did you cut the limb or did it fail?
