How to tie on to a straight vertical trunk when chogging down?

Need two hands with a figure 8 though pretty sure you could manage with one, I like the idea of choking off a descender like a gri gri or a cinch or a srwp system for really quick bailout.

French prusik clipped to a leg loop and you only need one hand on the top of the prusik. Keeps the line away from gaffs as well.

On the treemotion you can use the lower d to attach a large biner and munter hitch it to the rope below your hitch. Easy bailout with no extra clutter like grigri. Mind you I wouldn't want to bail out on this for more than 20 or 30 metres.

For tall trees i think a purpose built descender like grigri or rig is a more failsafe option

Here's a link to a youtube video by Eric Frei, he explains a couple of the techniques mentioned, and shows a great method with a figure 8(I think also mentioned). Sometimes helps to see these things in action.

Good luck and be safe, and don't forget to have fun, not everyone loves their job...lol.

almost forgot the link.....

I have only read page one but the best bit of advice I could offer is this:

Don't learn how to climb and dismantle a tree from a forum such as this. There are a lot of very good Arborists on here but if you misinterpret something on a post here, it could cost your life.

Sorry, but in this job when things go wrong, it happens in a hurry often with horrible results.
