My local railway station has an oak log half buried in the little 'garden' in front of it - I've often wondered if someone put it there specifically for stag beetles or it was just a happy accident.

As mentioned before, tree surgeons yards must be full of little grubs and things. I let my hens out and they do make a beeline for the old chip and log pile for a good scratch around.
