Driving in the snow today...

Like a plonker I forgot my camera but got a superb opportunity for some 4 wheel driving in the snow on Dartmoor today. The police had tried to close every road possible but the sun was shining and every flippin 4x4 in the Westcountry was out playing up there. My better half was crapping herself whilst I was really enjoying the stunning landscape, views and trying out the grip and axle articulation of a bog standard L200 - very impressive. Might try again in the week - much nicer than mud! :001_cool:

I took the truck up on the local hill to do a bit of snow driving when coming back down there were all these muppets trying to get up with no grasp on how it should be done. It turned out all the problems was caused by a merc driver with slick tyres trying to get up hill and wondering why he wasn;t getting any grip.

Friday- Left appledore for exmouth at 5.30am, took till 9.30pm to get to tiverton (35miles) after spinning off and having to wait. got to tiverton and followed snow plough through brampton, where he suddenly came to an abrupt halt after hitting a big snow drift, turned round and headed back, road blocked by some fallen trees, spent the next few hours cutting fallen trees off the road, with the local farmer towing away the main stems. It turned out to be a good day and I saw a great sense of community spirit with everyone chipping in to help and also bring coffee, and have possibly got a fair bit of work from it, all the locals wanted business cards! And to top it off I got back to the village and my gran made a big fry-up for me :). But it has prompted me to save my backside off to buy a 4x4.

Do you know Bellever by postrbridge - I went down there for a couple of days kayaking. Unfortunately we got stuck in for 3 days by the snow. Managed to escape today after the digger came and rescued us!!

Blimey! Sure do know Bellever - camped in there (laughter Tor) with my nephew recently and walk there a lot. I work in Fernworthy Forest a few miles away. The Director of the National Park and his Wife are family!....
