Hi All

Is there anyone out there who has had the carpal tunnel operation and might have a few tips on recover exercises. Also how long was it before you could use a handsaw again? My op was a week ago, and even cutting a loaf of crusty bread is difficult!

Yep had it done on my right wrist years ago . Arm pump riding motor bikes . Throttle/ brake hand . Six weeks tops . It worked by the way .

How long did your surgeon say? My wife had the op and it was about 6 weeks before she saw the improvement. Thing with injury (and surgery) is not to rush the recovery.

Surgeon was a little vague. No driving for two weeks, but did not put a time on any heavy work. I have a check up after 4 weeks, so I'll have to ask then. Meanwhile I have a few light jobs to do. I can type with the hand now, so that is a start! A couple of days ago I did try the hand axe on a bit of kindling for a couple of taps, which was a mistake. So have not picked up a tool since. The numb feeling at night has gone away already, which is fantastic as I get a good nights sleep.

My'n done April 2 years ago, 'miss heard' the doctor and thought he said I'd be back at work (self employed so important) in 3 weeks! Big mistake, it was 3 weeks before stitches out I think, but I could do log deliveries before then (with gloves on of course,) and chainsaw work fairly soon after. 100% back to normal and wouldnt know Id ever had it done within a few months. Have a friend who is a hand specialist in a hospital, and she said that exercises are good, she gave me a soft rubber ball that you had to squeeze with bad hand, which was supposed to be one of the best exercises. Hope you're 100% asap!
