Mother of all Co-Dominance

Been meaning to put these on for a while.. in the woods near our abode.

Certainly the longest continuos split I have come across, even in a gentle breeze the two halves move independently of each other for the top 20' of the stem... nice but wouldn't want it in my back garden!!

Unusual tree. I'm pretty sure that's NOT a co-dominant stem.

Looks more like an old lightening strike to me.

 

Anyone remember the old Beech on the right hand side on the way to Westonbirt (near the pub) That was the 'Mother of all Co-Dominance!'

i took a beech down that grew like that, but it spiraled. nightmare job, over a green house. the split was full of worms.

I did a monterey cypruss that was similar, put 3 ratchet straps up the trunk at 10ft intervals, job was a pleasure haha.

I've always wondered how the worms get up in the trees, felled a horse chesnut recently with a cavity some 20ft up full of worms? I wonder if they use the srt technique?
