Petzl Vertex Helmet

I brought this helmet about 6 months ago and I have been working in it on a regular baisis. Inevitably it is beginning to smell of sweat.

 

How does everyone else try to keep their helmets clean and smelling fresh?

Just scrub the head bands and ear muffs with alcohol wipes every so often.

Stick the whole helmet in a bucket with some bio washing powder. Take the ear muffs off and wash them out as well.

ive found the best one recently is put the helmet in a bucket full of warm water and a sprinkle of vanish leave it for 10 mins then take it out rinse it out well then leave to dry.

take out the foam pads and all the straps and machine wash, comes out sa new.

p.s i found it tricky to take apart but worth it.

You can buy new foam pads for the inside of helmet through Petzl. This way it feels and smells new!

I have tried to take the straps out but i can not figure out how to get them out!

I think the bucket of water and some washing powder is in order!

If it's the same model as mine pull out the two triangular shaped pieces at the, then the two at the back and the one in middle at back, straps just unclip. Take photos of straps in situ, I always forget how it goes back, quick spin in washer job done
