346xp chain oil leaking!

Hello there

My 346xp is leaking chain oil when it's not being used. It's coming out the bottom gap near the chain catcher and will leave a little puddle after only about 30 mins. Does anyone have an idea why this might be? It's a bit of a pain always having to watch where I put it down!

Cheers

Ger

It may be that the bar oiler hole is plugged and the oil is being forced out from other areas.

Other than that - had a chain adjuster wear through the crankcase on a 357XP but unlikely - you may have to pull off the clutch and remove the stainless cover to look at the pump - the seal between the pump and the rubber pickup hose is a compression affair, if all is good, you could try a new rubber pickup hose or fatten up the pad that sits over the pump and under the stainless cover.

Does the chain fling off a noce level of oil when the saw is revved and the bar is pointed at fresh cut wood?

The normal way is to thoroughly clean the area and see where the oil is coming from. It may be that the saw is over oiling and it is residual oil coming from the chainbrake area!

Thanks for the fast response! Rich, how can being horny be the cause of it? :-)

I'll have a look at the pump area then, give it a good clean and see if I can find where it's starting from. Bob once helped me take it to bits when it stopped oiling (turned out to be oil tank filter blocked), so I think I can remember the bits you're talking about. It does seem to be oiling the chain fine spud!
