Just wandering what the rules are regarding woods in conservation areas. I have a small felling job to do and was wandering wether or not you need to ask for permission or not?

Thanks

You will need to inform the council before you start, normally in writing. How much are you felling, make sure that you are felling less than 5m cube or you will need a felling licence.

Its more a thinning operation tbh. The trees are only 15years old and i imagine they won't be that big. The local parish council has been informed already by the owner. Will the district council need to be informed as well?

From past experiences in dealing with angry locals for vandalising their woods, i would inform all relevant authorities, and get it in writing. So when people start shouting, you can dangle it in front of them.

Then tell them to bog off, nicely of course.
