I'm not sure I'd spend the money on the assessment if I was in your position. What are you going to do if you fail.... Do the course again? Of course not, just do the training, that's the important bit. Buy another day's training if you feel you need it instead of the assessment, would be more useful....

Do the NPTC.

There's one or two chaps on here sell / repair / deal in S/H saws. Save the planet from more saw-building waste and buy an old 'n. I'd recommend Spudulike for a good deal, but others are out there.

I done the lantra course but the nptc assessment. I really didn't think there was anything the lantra part left out to be honest.

Useful to know, the Devon smallholders have a lantra course coming up in March and it's a third of the cost of the nptc.

Hi

Can I make a suggestion with regard to the felling of your trees. I am a Countryside management student at an agricultural college. We are always looking for felling experience. Try asking at a college near your farm I´m sure the Arb and Countryside Management depts would jump at the chance!!

Regards

As for buying PPE clothing, ebay is not bad. I have picked up S/H chaps £23, SIP Class C trousers new with tags £31!! Never used, smelt a bit musty from being stored in a shed. One wash, fine! Non protective Husqvarna forestry jacket £15 and so on. If you are a bit savvy you can pick up all you need on the web....

That's a great idea Paul, thanks, will do just that once we're down there.

Cheers.
