No Pegs!!

Not to deviate from the thread, but is leaving a few odd pegs such a bad thing when taking the tree down? When I did my CS41 I was told to leave the occasional peg as places to anchor to in an emergency or to stand on.

 

I think a rope guide is a better option for emergency anchor, and MUCH safer.

 

IMO, its better to develop the skill to work without pegs, rather than relying on even the odd one or two.

Pegs will catch brash when you're dismantling too which is a pain in the rear,and dangerous for many reasons.

i find when up some horrible skinny dead tree and your heart is in your mouth, a simple 3 inch peg to the backside of the stem can give you that little bit of reasuurance i need. one less what if.

but yes they can catch ropes and break ribs.
