one i looked at charged 2.75% per transaction = nearly a tenner per £350.

clients might go for it on smaller jobs but cant see them being happy paying an extra 10-20-30 quid just to use their card,

In an ideal world you'd pass that charge onto the customer, but even if you chose not to, isn't being paid instantly and relieving your cash flow worth £10 rather than waiting a week+ for them to send a cheque in, then a further week for it to clear?

what i meant was - you quote the job at £700, job finished, client asks can i pay by card - yes but +£20 - or you can bacs (my personal fave).

Would you REALLY ask for that 20 quid...?

Surely the better solution is factor it in assuming most people will want to pay by card. Alternatively if they bacs it straight away or pay cash they can have a discount....?

I have a blackberry and use a chip and pin reader supplied by Worldpay. I have downloaded an app from the Worldpay website. There is no monthly merchant fees and you only pay a small charge for each transaction. There is also no monthly charge for the chip and pin reader. Havent used it yet as most people want to pay me cash or by bacs. Not complaining though as it is an option for customers.

I've just changed over to a Barclaycard chip and pin machine after just shocking service from Lloydstsb.... they use a third party for the card machine...

All the prices and fees are 40% lower, the card machine is better and works better and service is treble times as good!
