Tony, do you refer to Bonsai in the 'wild' or in the 'pot' ?

Which mycorrhizal species have you noted ?

wasnt a fungi freak at the time i was into bonsai david so no ideas. though it is just another recognition of contact with fungi i had not thought about!

 

seems i was seeing them everywhere but not registering them, they got me in the end though!:lol:

For Mr. Humphries, as requested, a few close ups of some of those brackets posted yesterday in the general tree pics thread. The first 3 are from the top of the Oaks that we removed. The follwoing two are from some old Cherry and Pine (I think) over in some wet land. They look like they've been there a while.

Yep, Central North Island so warm summers but cooler winters (not as cold as the UK though). Being a grade A doofus in fungi ident I have no idea but would be interesting to go back to the powers that be and tell them they having something slightly more unusual on their trees.

looks like Pycnoporus cinnabarinus

 

In New Zealand it's Pycnoporus coccineus. And did the other bracket fungus have fine whitish to greyish pores ? If so, it might be Trametes hirsuta.

i thought trametes hirsuta too, the hairy trametes, but isnt there some bog standar trametes versicolour there too?

 

I did not know of the P. coccineus, as always your knowledge of your subject is legendary!:thumbup1:
