Went to see two very sad beeches today. From my efforts I can see kretchmaria and meripilus doing their thing but not sure of the biscuity brown radially fin-like thing? And a little grey fella Possibly saprophytes cleaning up after the bad boys?

Your thoughts welcomed :o

!! if its red data listed should I think about clever conservation things todo like dig up up the infected roots and plant them in a beech wood :-D

If it is what you say it backs up the above ground evidence of significant root decay.

shame really, the chap who spotted it after showing us insisted on having his lunch underneath it in his van.... wasnt really sure he got the "its really windy dont park here!" vibe i was giving off! what will be will be :-D

Pending client acceptance of the quote I've already liaised with the tree officer to remove them as both TPOd. ill see if i can get some cross cut photos of the stem of the one with Kretchmaria. Fairly sure the only thing keeping them upright is a square weight!

All in all quite an interesting day compared to hedges :-S
