You need to take great care, I know a guy who burned down his house burning sawdust on a log burner.

The problem is that if you put too much on and cover the fire completely, it "crusts" over, burning underneath and heating the top, this causes the build up of flammable gas above the "crust", a spark can then come through the crust igniting he gas and causing an explosion.

Wood chip boilers are very different to log burners.

Had that it was good entertainment on those long winters nights, would of loved to seen the flue shot it outside.

On a serious note though I had forgotten about that and that was helped by the logs put in fire and the air tube. The logs burnt out and created airflow for us.

I find the `noodles` that you get when cutting with the grain make great kindling.Havent burnt it much otherwise apart from rejuvenating the stove when its been overlooked or the logs could have been dryer. However, it generates some heat and is an alternative to using it in my henhouse.

I've been thinking about burning woodchip in my stove too - seems to good an opportunity to miss if the stuff can be dried out. Maybe a simple solar kiln (i.e. a bl**dy big second hand double glazed window panel built onto a well-insulated frame) would do the trick. Anybody tried it??
