I would also say yes.

When a complete novice starts out you get used to what you learn with.if you learn srt then nothing would seem out of the ordinary.however then we go into the question of weather the candidate can lift their own weight as opposed too half. Again as Paul said, depends on gear used.

what about understanding the different forces on the tree etc eg base tying and doubling your weight and also gaining access through throw line etc as its not a skill one learns over night , forgive me if i sound silly as i do not work position on a single line i use only for large tree access but if your throw line and its not at a decent tip when starting ascent how do you progress further from there .

also on the type of gear used to make life easier for ascent e.g. toothed ascenders imo are not really suitable for novice climbers as they have the potential to be very unsafe , maybe installing a 3 to 1 with a prussic and a pulley may make life easier and safer but then dosent that take away the whole point of srt .

But with your throwing for your tip now can you honestly say YOU can guarantee the safety of you tip at your experienced level.whats the difference between you and a beginner in regards to throw line.and I believe old mill said under supervision.help will be their when its needed.

I don't necessarily agree with the prospect but that wasn't the question.

SRTWP - Yes

SRTWA - Maybe

I think that they should be fine as we all learn to climb in some way. be it DRT or SRT any accidental cut above the hitch and its trouble. Some advantages of SRT is if you have a base anchor setup. So if they do freeze up and havent locked themselves around a branch the rescue is easy.

So personally i cant see why not.
