I have tried to get into the habit of not leaving any pegs at all these days - but for the simple reason that if I leave a peg, I have a tendency to stand on it when i'm above it, and whilst doing a job a couple of months back I stood on said peg and soon found out that when wearing spikes standing on pegs is a very slippery business! Needless to say I scared the s**t out of myself and since then no pegs.

looks like you enjoyed that one... Ignore the whineing about pegs. The job was done in good time without drama. You are the climber you should just do it the safest way that you are comfortable with.

There's an interesting discussion point... regarding leaving pegs..

A very good pal of mine finished his degree in Arboriculture from the Scottish School of Forestry last year and was telling me today that whilst on thier course they were taught to leave pegs as best practice...

 

I dont know what's right or wrong, it's down to the individual at the end of the day I suppose.

 

Mr. Bish - Yep - really enjoyed that job. If I could get one a month like that i'd be really happy.

Leaving pegs is stupidly dangerous one every 10ft maybe to catch if ya slip but lots would beat the **** out of ya on the way down.

 

You should be using spikes i understand on decid trees but connis should be spiked.

 

Mate used to peg and slipped broke 4-7 ribs cant remember how many exact but he was mullered.

i leave pegs because once i left no pegs sliped slid down hit the deck squashed two discs in my back still affects me now!! if i had pegs i would of stopped before the deck, rather a couple of broken ribs than constant day in day out back pain!!
