Maybe leave one peg every 4-6ft on the rear or the stem if your nervous, but no more than that.

One day you'll slip and see that you probably catch yourself before you get to the next peg anyway, after that no more pegs! When you get into rigging you definatly not want to leave any pegs.

its amazing how a rope can wrap round a peg and balls up a lowering job, :mad1:

I have tried to get into the habit of not leaving any pegs at all these days - but for the simple reason that if I leave a peg, I have a tendency to stand on it when i'm above it, and whilst doing a job a couple of months back I stood on said peg and soon found out that when wearing spikes standing on pegs is a very slippery business! Needless to say I scared the s**t out of myself and since then no pegs.

...awful lot of pegs your leaving there...

...in my experience a peg is something to snag your gear on or even worse jab you if you gaff out

or to hang your man bag on

looks like you enjoyed that one... Ignore the whineing about pegs. The job was done in good time without drama. You are the climber you should just do it the safest way that you are comfortable with.

There's an interesting discussion point... regarding leaving pegs..

A very good pal of mine finished his degree in Arboriculture from the Scottish School of Forestry last year and was telling me today that whilst on thier course they were taught to leave pegs as best practice...

I dont know what's right or wrong, it's down to the individual at the end of the day I suppose.

Mr. Bish - Yep - really enjoyed that job. If I could get one a month like that i'd be really happy.

Having said that, I've got two jobs coming up just shortly that are similar.

Leaving pegs is stupidly dangerous one every 10ft maybe to catch if ya slip but lots would beat the **** out of ya on the way down.

You should be using spikes i understand on decid trees but connis should be spiked.

Mate used to peg and slipped broke 4-7 ribs cant remember how many exact but he was mullered.
