Wood Pellets??

Recommended Posts

What sort of price are people paying. Doing a quick google the lowest I have come across is £140 per tonne. That is far less than the logs I sell at £100 per cubic mtr. As for being disappointed at "only" making £30 a tonne on selling pellets I wish it was that easy.

Never seen them for £140 per tonne John, average is £240-280.

Been advised to go for Balcas pellets and I think best I have been offered is £1.99 per 10kg bag from the Plumb Centre - there is one on my doorstep so I could pick and deliver when required. Would save shelling out £5500 per a truck full.

Tomatin - I agree, would be struggling to make a profit on it once you take in to account delivery costs and time for handling/delivering.

I've just 3 bags left of Balcas Brites, 6mm, and they are better than many I've had. The canadian ones we first imported were the best. The ones from the mill we were involved with tended to disintegrate if left in an open barn. I think this was because they used non virgin timber as rawstock and clasifed the sawdust by size, discarding the smallest fraction as being most likely to containe "contraries". This meant there was nothing to fill the voids as the lignin plasticised. so less gluing effect.

BTW the business plan in 2000 was to market the stuff in bulk at £70/tonne.

I there a machine out there that can compress processor waste to a usable size brick or pellet. Would only want to compress about 30m of sawdust and bits a year. Seems a shame to just burn a possibly valuable product.

I have both a briquette press and wood pellet machine which could compress the processor waste the problem is the moisture content. The pellet machine will not work with a moisture content in excess of 12% and the briquette press 15%.
