Is this really a police matter???

As usual the media have turned a non event into a circus.

No one is to blame, it's just an unhappy coincidence. She can't have topped herself because of the prank call, and if she did, she was clearly unstable and needed help before this happened.

I have no sympathy for suicides, coward's way out. How could she do that to her children? Disgusting act of selfishness.

I would have thought it takes more courage to end one's own life than not. I'm sure I wouldn't have the cojones to do it.

Well the hospital said she was not disciplined in anyway, surly if she had made such a huge breach of protocol some action would have been taken.

Possibly, but we may never know the exact details now.

I have never really enjoyed this type of comedy where people are duped into looking a bit silly, even though she wasn't the main victim the actions of the prank may have been too much for her with tragic consequences .

Don't underestimate yourself Felix!

I jest of course.....!

Suicide is not a brave thing to do, the brave thing to do is face up to your problems and put in the hard work to get through them. Killing yourself, if that is indeed what she did, because you're a bit red faced after making a cock up at work is a ridiculous solution and certainly not the courageous option!

Not everybody commits suicide for the same reason. Sometimes problems can't be got through, regardless of hard work. I expect many people on here will have lost friends or family members who felt so desperate that suicide seemed the only solution. Without wishing to pick a fight, I do feel you are grossly oversimplifying the whole issue.

I can't believe people are turning on her now, no one knows this woman's situation or her state of mind

I'm not turning on her, but I disagree that the radio dj's should be blamed for her death, I also disagree that suicide is a valid solution to personal problems, even serious ones, and certainly not mild embarrassment. She chose that path and as a parent I can't see how it was the right one....

She has 2 kids and a husband. They should have been enough to get her through this, but if they weren't then everything was clearly not rosey for her and the dj's should not be blamed for her death.

You're absolutely right, our friend and neighbour hung himself in his workshop at the end of my drive, and I know that he had good reason, something he couldn't live with. I don't think any less of him for doing it.

I'm the same way, this nurse may have had good reason. If she did, it certainly wasn't putting the dj's through, and the media need to stop the witch hunt.

That's the point I'm trying to make.

IMO, it is not a police matter re the hospital protocols, the DJs prank etc. investigating the suicide is a police matter. I doubt an NHS hosptial would have fallen for it, not in the hospital I was in anyway. Every time someone rang to find out how I was doing they would ask if I wanted to speak to them, and what they were allowed to say if I didn't want to talk. At times I didn't want anyone to know exactly how I was feeling and I asked them to be vague, which they did perfectly. At times I would have been devastated if my true state of health was passed to anyone, most of the time I didn't care less. But I do know how vulnerable you can feel in hospital.

I can imagine any pregnant woman would not wish the press, or in fact anyone to invade her privacy, especially if she is in fear of the health of her baby, and suffering from serious morning sickness, that cannot be played down. Patient confidentiality is the basis of our health care in this country, any one from cleaner to top surgeon would be aware of this, regardless of protocols, and as such the staff concerned failed in their basic duties to their patient. I can imagine that the guilt might weigh heavily on someone with any kind of conscience. How they handle that guilt is down to them, no one else.

The problem relates to the fact that no thought was or is given to the fall out following these acts that are undertaken in the name of entertainment. The dj's are obviously trying to be funny whilst manipulating their fragile ego's along the way.

The radio station apologised but still had the link on their web site and one of the dj's was still bragging about it on twitter for several days.

The stress of the situation, and the investigation by the hospital,on the nurse must have been Huge and we all know that different people react to situations.

If you, without thinking, undertake such actions then be prepared to accept the fallout when it all goes wrong and the finger pointing starts.

This Christmas the dj's may not have the best time in the world, but they will move on to better times. The nurses family will be hurting and there will be no joy for her husband or children this year and for many Christmases to come.

The statements put out by the station were pathetic, and I'm sure they would be reacting a different way if it was their mother / wife.

Although it will never happen, I would make the people responsible fly to the uk to say sorry to her family in person, let them see the pain they have caused.

A lot of this so called entertainment involving the general public sees people ridiculed and their is no consensual control on what is aired and what is not.

I hope this situation, as sad as it is makes broadcasters think long and hard.

As for this ladies family, I wish them the best and hope they can find closure and peace at this time of the year.
