Re-reducing a ganoderma decayed storm damaged beech today, the guys took the oportunity to axe wound the long bare lateral.

Great habitat tree

Any close ups of the Axe wounds David?

I should imagine they are much the same as the ones in the earlier posts anyway:001_smile:

Was their any conclusive data on the axe pollards done some years back on beech trees in burnham?

was interesting to listen to Helen talking today on the length of stubs left on retrenchment pruning.

Do you know of any data also on fracture pruning and reactive dormant bud response? I guess this can fall into the category of deliberately wounding trees can't it?

hello Dan, hope you're well mate?

Where you at?

Did you get a chance to read Helen's piece in the Arb journal last year?

"Restoration of lapsed beech pollards: Evaluation of techniques and guidance for future work"

If you've not got access, give me a shout & I'll get you a copy.

No definitive evaluation of deliberate fracture associated bud response that I know of (as yet).

I think these were axe created at the beeches back in 2006 and/or '07
