Petrol log spitter hydraulic pressure

I have got my hands on a little 6hp log spitter which had a split hose coming of one of the rams. I have repaired the split and put it all back together and get no hydraulic pressure , my question is do I need to bleed the system or am I missing something completely

Was on a steel pipe (sorry not hose) got an engineer mate of mine to weld it

How much oil was lost when the pipe split?....that's a nice way of asking if it has any left:laugh1:

Type of thing I would do but I did refill when I put it back together

So it has oil and the pump is running how long did you try it for? Any air will purge itself after a few moments

seals in the ram could be damaged

Pump does not seem to purge I have had it running for several minutes that is why I was wondering about bleedng or something , feeling a Jon Cleese moment coming soon with this thing.

pump could be knackered.

is there any vibration?

could you undo a joint and see if its pumping ?

been carefull not get covered in oil

pump shaft sheared internal or relief valve stuck open blob of slag from weldin pipe causing flow return etc
